In this episode of Designing Worlds, we paid our final visit to Fantasy Faire 2019.

DW401 – Fantasy Faire 2019 Part III from Richard Elen on Vimeo.

We talked to the Faire organiser David Abbot, in charge of operations, and he explains what a mammoth task it is keeping something like the Faire running, and how the community comes together to help.

We also visited Genesia and talked to its creators, Haveit Neox and Lilia Artis, about the amazing worlds they created above and below the waves – and the dance performances they staged there.

And finally, we explored the stunningly beautiful Midas, created by Alia Baroque.

This year’s has been a rough one behind the scenes in many ways and, while the Unweaver always takes a good crack at knocking us down there were times this year when he seemed to be trying particularly hard. But together, as always, we came through it. Technical issues, surprises and all the usual complications that go with running an event this size came together to try and stop us.

But they didn’t.

The Literary Festival at Fantasy Faire ran right through the 2019 event … and beyond!

We had poetry prompts and open mics sessions, guest readers (including our Guest of Honour, Elizabeth Bear), a dramatic performance in Overtroll, and, of course, the LitFest Tours (also known as The Company of Faire Folk Rides Out). We even had a Book Table which helped you purchase the books of authors who had appeared here!
